For a second successive winter transfer window, the Chinese Super League has upset the established world soccer order with the spending power and ambition of its biggest clubs. It started in December as Shanghai SIPG agreed to pay $60 million to Chelsea for Brazil's Oscar in a move that prompted Antonio Conte, coach of the Premier League club, to warn about the challenge from the east. ''The Chinese market is a danger for all,'' Conte said.

Patrick Marleau started the winning play when he skated in alone on three defenders. Marleau fed Hertl, who then beat Frederik Andersen with a quick shot to the short side for his eighth goal of the season.

Riley Nash scored a short-handed goal after Colin Miller was ejected for a bone-rattling hit that sent Arizona's Alexander Burmistrov to the hospital, and the Boston Bruins pulled away with a three-goal second period to beat the Coyotes 4-1 on Tuesday night. Miller was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for knocking Burmistrov out of the game in the second period. Boston has won six of seven games since firing coach Claude Julien and replacing him with Bruce Cassidy.

Arizona Coyotes forward Alexander Burmistrov was taken off on a stretcher after a hit from Bruins defenseman Colin Miller on Tuesday night left him motionless on the ice for several minutes. Burmistrov gave a thumbs-up with both hands as he was wheeled off the ice. Burmistrov received a pass and had just sent the puck along when Miller came into him sideways and knocked him down.


Blackhawks reacquire defenseman Oduya in trade with Stars (Yahoo Sports)

The Blackhawks have reacquired defenseman Johnny Oduya, who left in free agency for the Dallas Stars after being part of two Stanley Cup championships in Chicago. Dallas traded Oduya to the Blackhawks on Tuesday night in exchange for young forward Mark McNeill and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL draft.

A Tibet women's soccer team has been denied U.S. visas to participate in a tournament in Dallas. Cassie Childers, a coach and executive director for Tibet Women's Soccer, said that 16 members of the team were told at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, that they ''have no good reason to visit the U.S.,'' during their visit on Feb. 24. Childers, who is from New Jersey, said in an email from India that embassy officials did not glance at the documents nor provide any other reasons or explanations.

The return of the mumps has caught some NHL players by surprise and they are counting on the league being better equipped to deal with the second such outbreak in a little over two years. ''Well, it happened the one time, and guys were concerned about it and thought it was going to be kind of gone forever,'' Buffalo Sabres veteran forward Kyle Okposo said Tuesday. The latest outbreak began in Vancouver, where the Canucks announced last weekend defenseman Troy Stecher had been diagnosed while six other players and a trainer were showing symptoms.

Major League Soccer is increasing each team's roster size from 28 to 30 by creating two spots for homegrown players that have come up through a team's youth system. Teams may spend up to $200,000 of their targeted allocation money to sign homegrown players to their first professional contracts, the league said Tuesday. AC Milan has announced a shareholders' meeting for Friday to complete the sale of the club. Closing the sale to a group of Chinese investors has been scheduled for Friday since a postponement was agreed at the end of last year by Silvio Berlusconi's holding company and Sino-Europe Sports. The meeting is a formality as Berlusconi owns 99.93 percent of the club, which he purchased 30 years ago.

A person with knowledge of the trade says the Minnesota Wild have acquired Czech center Martin Hanzal from the Arizona Coyotes. Details on the return to Arizona were not immediately available. Hanzal was considered one of the top rental players available ahead of Wednesday's NHL trade deadline.

The goalkeeper only turned 18 on Saturday but the match at the Mapei Stadium was his 60th for Milan, which is expected to tie him to a long-term contract as soon as possible. Berlin police made almost 100 arrests on Saturday when Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt supporters clashed violently before their Bundesliga game. Police say masked fans fought with batons, bottles, beer crates, chairs and flares on a busy street corner in the neighborhood of Moabit. Two police vehicles were damaged with stones and bottles before 96 arrests were made - with 73 of those arrested from the state of Hessen, which has Frankfurt as its largest city.

Tottenham made it three consecutive 4-0 wins against Stoke as a Harry Kane hat trick and Dele Alli strike saw them climb to second in the Premier League table on Sunday at White Hart Lane. Spurs got off to the perfect start when Kane made it 1-0 after 14 minutes, the striker capitalising on a Ryan Shawcrosss error as he sent a fine low drive rifling into the corner. Gabriel Landeskog had two goals and an assist, and Jeremy Smith made 34 saves for his first NHL win as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 on Saturday night. The lowly Avalanche saw their three-goal lead twice cut down to one but held the Sabres scoreless in the third period for only their second victory in the last 10 games. Buffalo came back from its bye week and missed a chance to make up ground in the Eastern Conference standings.
