Timbers-Earthquakes Preview (The Associated Press)
The Portland Timbers usually endured lackluster starts in their previous five MLS seasons but the confidence gained from winning their first league title could change that trend. The Timbers will attempt to open with back-to-back victories for the first time Sunday while also continuing their recent mastery of the San Jose Earthquakes. Portland topped Columbus 2-1 last Sunday in a rematch of last season's MLS Cup championship, and Fanendo Adi provided the tiebreaking goal in the 79th minute for just the Timbers' second March victory in team history.
