Lightning-Penguins Preview (Yahoo Sports)

Pittsburgh Penguins' Patric Hornqvist (72) falls against the back of the net behind Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop (30) after getting off a shot during the first period of Game 1 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Eastern Conference finals Friday, May 13, 2016, in Pittsburgh. Bishop was injured on the play when he fell backward and landed awkwardly. He was replaced by Andrei Vasilevskiy. The Lightning won 3-1. (AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar)

Pittsburgh defensemen Kris Letang and Brian Dumoulin needed to be helped off the ice after getting smashed into the boards headfirst following illegal hits from behind by a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay center Tyler Johnson skated off in obvious pain following a knee-on-knee collision with Penguins forward Chris Kunitz that may have been avoidable. Following two emotionally charged series wins over the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals, the prospect of facing the less familiar Lightning seemed to offer an opportunity for a respite from the NHL's annual tap dance with what is - and what isn't - against the rules.
