Gordie Howe was 'the ultimate professional hockey player' (Yahoo Sports)

FILE - In this Jan. 25, 1986, file photo, former Detroit Red Wings' star Gordie Howe, left, puts his arm around fellow hockey legend Bobby Hull at a reception honoring the Legends of Hockey in Chicago. Gordie Howe, the hockey great who set scoring records that stood for decades, has died. He was 88. Son Murray Howe confirmed the death Friday, June 10, 2016, texting to The Associated Press:

Gordie Howe helped revolutionize the NHL by sheer force. While other hockey greats could skate and put the puck in the net, ''Mr. Hockey'' could do more than that, Howe, who died Friday at the age of 88, was a physical force as well as an offensive superstar. ''A player like Gordie Howe doesn't come around very often, a player that plays as well and as long as he did,'' said Michigan coach Red Berenson, who played with and against Howe.
