Rodriguez's late goal gives Southampton draw with Sunderland (The Associated Press)
Southampton and Sunderland shared the points Saturday at St Mary's after Saints substitute Jay Rodriguez scored late to cancel out Jermain Defoe's goal from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw. Southampton (0-2-1) had the better chances in the first half but young keeper Jordan Pickford was in inspired form to keep out two shots from Charlie Austin. Pickford then made two more excellent saves in the second half, thwarting both Shane Long and Nathan Redmond within two minutes of each other.
