Spanish league officials have denounced Valencia for fans' offensive chants against Barcelona, Catalonia and Lionel Messi during a game last week. The league said Thursday it has asked the Spanish federation to consider sanctioning the club because the chants were discriminatory and incited violence. The announcement was made a day after the Spanish federation fined Valencia 1,500 euros ($1,600) after water bottles were thrown at Barcelona players celebrating a goal during Saturday's match at Mestalla Stadium.
