Hull edged toward Premier League safety after overcoming an early deficit to beat Southampton 2-1 on Sunday. Charlie Austin got the visitors off to a flying start when he scored from the penalty spot in the sixth minute to give Southampton the early lead. The defeat was midtable Southampton's second league setback in a row following on from a 2-0 loss to Chelsea a week ago.
