Auston Matthews arrived in the Phoenix area with considerable fanfare and left with an assist and victory. Matthews had an assist in his first NHL game in his hometown and upstaged his mentor, Arizona captain Shane Doan, in the Maple Leafs' 4-1 victory over the Coyotes on Friday night. ''We won,'' said Matthews, who grew up and played youth hockey in Scottsdale.
