Czech ice hockey great Augustin Bubnik dies at 88 (Yahoo Sports)
Czech ice hockey great Augustin Bubnik, whose international career was abruptly ended by communist persecution, died on Tuesday. The Czech Ice Hockey Association announced on its website that the former left winger died after a long-term illness, without elaborating. Bubnik helped Czechoslovakia take the silver medal at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and win the world championship in Stockholm the following year.
