AP Source: Gutierrez's court case against Newcastle to start (The Associated Press)
A person familiar with the proceedings says former Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez's discrimination case against English Premier League club Newcastle will begin on Tuesday. Gutierrez is suing Newcastle for 2 million pounds ($2.9 million) over the way he was treated after his battle against testicular cancer, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly. Gutierrez has made the claim for disability discrimination under the 2010 Equality Act, alleging Newcastle deliberately managed his selection in the final year of his deal in the 2014-15 season so he would not reach a certain amount of appearances that would trigger a new one-year contract.
