Toffees prove too much for Black Cats (The Associated Press)

Everton overcame Sunderland with a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Idrissa Gueye and Romelu Lukaku. Gueye got a shot on goal early on which was well saved by Jordan Pickford, but the keeper was helpless on 40 minutes as Gueye sent a superb first-time shot into the top corner after a smart cross from Seamus Coleman to make it 1-0. It was then nearly 2-0 on the stroke of half time as young Tom Davies struck the outside of the post with a half volley.
