Van Aanholt lifts Palace over Middlesbrough (The Associated Press)
Patrick van Aanholt's first-half strike proved to be the difference on Saturday as Crystal Palace claimed a massive three points and climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Selhurst Park. Both clubs entered the match trying to stave off the relegation zone as Palace had lost six of their last seven league fixtures, while Boro hadn't fared much better - winless in eight straight league matches. Palace had the advantage early in front of the home fans and were on the front foot from the outset, creating chances and knocking the ball around well, while Boro really struggled to find their bearing in the opening half.
